Aaron Wilson’s tape installations are initiated by the masking of an area as if prepping for the act of painting, thus creating a barrier so that paint does not mark those spaces on the surface. Being site specific, Wilson’s Towards the Line installations, bring the surrounding streets of Satellite Gallery inside and onto the walls.
This current investigation brings the sightline inside, no longer is it represented on a flat two dimensional picture plane, but rather the viewer now has the chance to experience the sightline as it is being made and must determine which elements of the work are abstracted views and which are masked off areas ready to be painted.
The audience were invited to experience the process of Wilson’s tape installation, where between his artist talk and meeting viewers, he continued to install the tape. Work continued on the installation over the rest of the week and viewers were welcome to return to the gallery in the succeeding week to see the completed installation.
