My next exhibition will be a large collection of plein air*, alla prima** paintings.

I'm forever chasing the sunlight trying to capture its fleeting effects and often end up at the waters edge, where the light hits the water, or in the city searching out the last golden rays.

A day could begin at 4.30am when the alarm goes off and I get up hoping for another good sunrise. I've already done the drawing and at the location. It's still dark as I lay out the paint but I can't even see what colour I'm holding.

I'm finally ready as the sun rises and nature throws down another gauntlet. I know from experience that I have about half an hour to get the basics down and that the clouds will do their best to frustrate me. Throw coastal water into the mix and I'm at risk of making a fool of myself in front of the early morning joggers. But somehow a half decent image emerges and I'm satisfied, with my reputation in tact.

Come to the show and see a little bit of summer in the winter time.

* Painted on site in the open air

** Painted in one session while the paint is still wet
